Emission factors include both directions, thus return trip need not to be calculated
Ferries carry both passengers and freight; 80% of emissions are allocated to passengers, 20% to freight.
Ropax ships carry both freight and passengers; 84% of emissions are allocated to freight, 16% to passengers.
Number of transport units (truck or trailer) is 80 %, one loaded transport unit contains on average 14 tonnes load, share of empty units is 15 %.
g/ship km = grams per ship kilometre (the transport of the entire ship over one kilometre)
g/trailer km = grams per trailer kilometre (the transport of one trailer over one kilometre)
g/tkm = grams per tonne kilometre (the transport of one net tonne over one kilometre)
DWT = deadweight tonnage = the sum of the masses of cargo, fuel, fresh water, ballast water, provisions, passengers and crew
CO = carbon monoxide, HC = total hydrocarbons (including methane CH4), NOx = nitrogen oxides, PM = particulate matter, CH4 = methane, N2O = nitrous oxide, SO2 = sulphur dioxide, CO2 = carbon dioxide, CO2e = equivalentic CO2 (CH4 factor 25, N2O factor 298), MJ = megajoule
