Emission factors include both directions, thus return trip need not to be calculated
g/ship km = grams per ship kilometre (the transport of the entire ship over one kilometre)
g/TEU km = grams per container kilometre (the transport of one container unit TEU over one kilometre)
g/container freight tkm = grams per container freight tonne kilometre (the transport of one tonne of freight carried in a container over one kilometre)
g/bulk tkm = grams per bulk tonne kilometre (the transport of one tonne of bulk over one kilometre)
g/tkm = grams per tonne kilometre (the transport of one net tonne over one kilometre)
DWT = deadweight tonnage = the sum of the masses of cargo, fuel, fresh water, ballast water, provisions, passengers and crew
Emissions per load tonne of container gargo are bigger than those of bulk cargo, because the mass of the container increses energy consumption and emissions which, however, are allocated to freight only.
CO = carbon monoxide, HC = total hydrocarbons (including methane CH4), NOx = nitrogen oxides, PM = particulate matter, CH4 = methane, N2O = nitrous oxide, SO2 = sulphur dioxide, CO2 = carbon dioxide, CO2e = equivalentic CO2 (CH4 factor 25, N2O factor 298), MJ = megajoule
